Sketches, Spring Semester Part 1, + More

This one was part of an assignment to illustrate using barcodes. All 4 of those are "Escape".

Barcode version of "Surprise".

~~~~~
Belated Get to Know me Sunday 3 (for 6/3/12)
5 questions:
1.) In your opinion, what are the seven wonders of the world?
The human spirit, the emotional inner lives of animals, the modern age with all its technological advances, life being on this planet, love, the numerous ways people have found to express imagination and creativity, and the world itself and how much we still have left to discover.
2.) Who would you pick to be the next president?
Realistically speaking, Obama. Romney scares me (although not quite as bad as Palin did). Idealistically speaking, either of the Gates couple- both seem to have a good grasp of altruism as well as knowing how to run a large corporation (a skill that probably transfers to running a country somewhat), and they're both wealthy enough to not be bought out by Big Business and their demon-spawn Lobbyists.Or one of the reigning UFC champions. Then the other countries can also elect fighters. Then, when someone has a problem with someone else, we send in our Presidents to fight it out and whomever wins, wins whatever the problem was and the losing country has to help them with whatever they needed to solve the problem.
3.) What life experienced has strengthened you the most?
They all have. That's the point of trials and tribulations and even the good life experiences...to learn. But it wasn't til the past couple of years that I realized this and allowed them to strengthen me. To embrace every ounce of pain (not just the good stuff) , and instead of pushing it away, say to myself, "Hey, I guess this is the lesson I was meant to learn." And I'm thankful for all of it because it's made me who I am today. Okay, maybe I'm not thankful right away, but I get there eventually! :P
4.) Which is more important- intelligence or common sense?
"And/or" questions suck. Why does it have to be one or the other? It depends on the situation. If pushed, I guess common sense has a slight edge. I think I feel that because I know or have seen too many dumb Smart People.
5.) What would you like to change about your relationship with your family?
I wish my cousins lived closer so I could see them more. I wish my mother could see value in me, and value in a life lived more...calmly. I wish I knew why my Dad is the way he is. I wish my brother and I were closer. All I can say is...I can only work on my end of things.
~~~~~

So, I was thinking to myself earlier, why do I post here? I know I pretend I'm talking to someone else when I know nobody else comes here and I'm just talking to myself. So why?

Well, posting my art makes me feel like I have to make more art to post. And that's a good thing of course.

And as for the questions, I have read so much recently about "knowing yourself', every inch of what you think, is the best way to know what you want in life. So, yeah...why not ask myself questions I normally don't think about and articulating things makes stuff in my head more solid somehow.

Oh, and all my questions thus far come from a "game" called Tabletopics. The cube I am using is "original" edition, but I think I'll get another one once I'm done with this one.

Doodles Thus Far

I think better when I doodle during lectures. Sometimes my mind goes to weird places.

Jay's Art Thing

Meant to post sooner. Had two pictures in Jay's show. The below is titled "Childhood Summer". Made with Oil Pastels. They remind me of crayons, so was going for something childlike yet somewhat adult.

"For Sale: Used" is this ones title. Pen and colored pencil.

Old Pic

Cleaning out my mail box and I found this one. Several years old. I think I titled it Mommy Dearest :p

Recharged!

I made an executive decision last week and didn't do a damn thing but relax. No internal deadlines. Just mindless WoW-ing. I can't even begin to tell you how much better I feel.

It gave me a lot more energy to get back to art. These are a couple of things I am working on. I didn't want you to see exactly what they are yet, because I'm one of those people that really don't like to show something til it's done (last drawing post was a fluke because I never plan on finishing it). They're more to just show assurance that I am working on something.

I have plans to bring my scanner over to this laptop. It's been previously hooked up to the Hub's computer, but his comp has decided to mysteriously stop working. But I don't have any room for it on my table at this second...soooo! Soon.

Also, it'll be a slightly busy week as I have out-of-town company coming in Fri. And some birthdays coming up. The plan is to have both pics done by Sunday. All I can say is I'll do my best to get everything done on time!

Update For August

I'm going to have to skip this weeks Illustration Friday and possibly next weeks. Have to start the work on the picture for Mark and Mai's wedding that I'm drawing (so I'll have that to post at least).

My damn photo class is full and so is the waitlist. I'll be going to see what other class I can take if only to be able to sign up earlier than other people for next semester.

I'll be starting on the sketchbook this week for the Sketchbook Project.

Rich and I are throwing around some webcomic ideas, with his story and my drawing. I don't know if I'm good enough for that but we'll see. (actually we've had this conversation before haven't we? about being good enough! :P)

And maybe I'll get started on my animals doing weird stuff idea.

It doesn't sound like much, but it's actually a full schedule if you throw in being in a wedding, trying to find homes for three kittens, cleaning up the house (and other wifely duties), starting school, and trying to kill the damn Lich King in WoW!

As for the pic above, it was just something I was doing to try to warm up after a long hiatus of not drawing. But I was a dumbass (dumas?) and left the pic on the coffee table where someone was able to spill salsa on it. Trying to clean it off actually made holes, so now I have no motivation to finish it. I thought I'd just post what was worked on before it went to the art graveyard.

Comic-Con Swag

I normally associate "swag" with more substantial stuff from cons, such as t-shirts, flash drives, posters, etc. But for lack of a better word, here's my swag for the con- 4 bookmark designs. I tried to make designs to reflect my artistic interests.

This one shows my interest in art deco and art nouveau. There are other movements I like, but I only had time for 4 bookmarks :D

Here, my love for mythology, symbolism and cats.

My fascination with zombies is shown here. Oh, I forgot to tell friends the Hub got me Last Night on Earth for my birthday! It's a super fun boardgame, and basically, it puts zombies (1-2 players) against humans (everyone else). Since it's my birthday game, I've claimed zombies in perpetuum. Neener neener.

And I think cephalopods (squid, octopi, and cuttlefish) are some of the coolest animals on earth.

So perhaps, next year, with more time (seriously, I've known about this forever but only decided to do something 4 days ago.), maybe I'll have prints to sell. Assuming there is interest.
