Taking the Plunge

Rebecca's Open Mic Poetry Night

I read "Sex Toy" (NSFW) and the following two:

Midnight Again

Night-time lover,
Dream catcher and whimsical muse-
Ever out of reach but always watching.
Cloud littered darkness,
Briefly illuminated by your glory,
Shades my vision of your peeking glances.

Night-time lover,
Beautiful friend and gentle guardian.
Your face is reflected in my thoughts,
Well lit by the sun's fire.
I try to capture your illusive majesty
But am staggered by your illustrious history.

Night-time lover,
Monthly flirt and crafty shape-shifter.
Sometimes invisible to my searching eye,
Your presence is still felt.
Come lay with me, my pen the craft
With which to float on to creation.

Night-time lover,
Heart-stealer and life witness.
From ignorant awe of youth to today's tears,
You are my constant.
Every morning is a bitter-sweet farewell
When the horizon lifts it's gossamer veil.

The hearts been broken and hastily repaired;
It might need replacement.
Let's not mention the exhaust.
Inside though,
The spirit is brand new

I know.

Personal stuff has..kind of..exploded in my face. So.

Yes, so.

That's how I am right now.

I -will- get back to this.

Just, working on some things so I don't go crazy.

Crazier than I am.

I would not ignore this if it weren't serious. Really.

Being an artist is one of the most important things in my life.

I'm just...trying not to get...broken.

Recharged!

I made an executive decision last week and didn't do a damn thing but relax. No internal deadlines. Just mindless WoW-ing. I can't even begin to tell you how much better I feel.

It gave me a lot more energy to get back to art. These are a couple of things I am working on. I didn't want you to see exactly what they are yet, because I'm one of those people that really don't like to show something til it's done (last drawing post was a fluke because I never plan on finishing it). They're more to just show assurance that I am working on something.

I have plans to bring my scanner over to this laptop. It's been previously hooked up to the Hub's computer, but his comp has decided to mysteriously stop working. But I don't have any room for it on my table at this second...soooo! Soon.

Also, it'll be a slightly busy week as I have out-of-town company coming in Fri. And some birthdays coming up. The plan is to have both pics done by Sunday. All I can say is I'll do my best to get everything done on time!

Broken Promises?

Wow. I am soooo tired. I totally understand that whole chicken with the head cut off thing. Anyway, I told myself, and you, I'd have something to post once a week at least. And I guess I'm barely squeaking one in this week, but it kind of feels like a cheat, since it's totally not what I had planned to post.

I am still working on my friends wedding gift (piece of art from me- their request), not to mention actually being in the wedding has me doing stuff to get ready and going to rehearsals. Click on this link to see how cute they are :D

I did manage to pencil my first comic, rough sketch only. It's just a little series I am thinking of. I don't think it's always going to be funny, but just a way to make visual the random thoughts that go through my head. Well, I will definitely have that ready next week.

AND getting my foster kittens ready to go to the rescue group (Cat Adoption Service here in San Diego). They're about 9-10 weeks now. We rescued them from a feral mom. So we had socializing and vaccines and spaying and vet visits (and also got some cages and caught a feral for neutering; still have about 8 more ferals to catch) ...and today I dropped them off at the La Jolla Petsmart for the rescue's adoption event. Here's hoping they find great homes :D

So my contribution this week are these pics I took of my little monsters. This is Peanut, Butter, and Jelly, in that order.

I take damn good kitten pics ;)

Let's hope next week slows down a little. And, fyi, I've got some major house cleaning to do to get ready to find a new roommate. My roomy Mike bought his own condo. Yay more stuff to take away art time :(

Update For August

I'm going to have to skip this weeks Illustration Friday and possibly next weeks. Have to start the work on the picture for Mark and Mai's wedding that I'm drawing (so I'll have that to post at least).

My damn photo class is full and so is the waitlist. I'll be going to see what other class I can take if only to be able to sign up earlier than other people for next semester.

I'll be starting on the sketchbook this week for the Sketchbook Project.

Rich and I are throwing around some webcomic ideas, with his story and my drawing. I don't know if I'm good enough for that but we'll see. (actually we've had this conversation before haven't we? about being good enough! :P)

And maybe I'll get started on my animals doing weird stuff idea.

It doesn't sound like much, but it's actually a full schedule if you throw in being in a wedding, trying to find homes for three kittens, cleaning up the house (and other wifely duties), starting school, and trying to kill the damn Lich King in WoW!

As for the pic above, it was just something I was doing to try to warm up after a long hiatus of not drawing. But I was a dumbass (dumas?) and left the pic on the coffee table where someone was able to spill salsa on it. Trying to clean it off actually made holes, so now I have no motivation to finish it. I thought I'd just post what was worked on before it went to the art graveyard.

Welcome to San Diego Comic-Con 2010!

Hi!

If you're the one person who liked my art (dire predictions of the future ;P) and decided to stop by here, then thank you SO MUCH. I live my life to have someone look at something I've created and say to themselves "Hey that's interesting. I want to see more." I think that's pretty much the goal of most artists...ok, with a smattering of financial gain and getting published/in a gallery/acquiring a fan base too. But mostly just making people happy/interested/feel something. OK, yes, I'm babbling again. I really should stop blogging past midnight *yawn*.

I think the one thing I'm worried about most is people looking here and seeing not much up. I must confess, this blog is relatively new, thus the lack of content. But there are plans!

1.) Continued work with Illustration Friday. It's really good practice and just fun to look at as well. And I've already met some interesting artists. I'll probably mostly be doing digital work for that.

2.) Catching up and continued participation with Daily Shoot. Yes, photography is only a hobby at this point, but I can feel what I am learning from that, in regards to lighting and composition, bleeding into other areas. And on that note...

3.) I'll be taking a photography class this fall (I hope), so I'll probably be subjecting people to my homework and assignments. ^.^

4.) a small series involving animals doing improbable things. That will most likely involve pen and ink and possibly color pencil and be hand rendered.

5.)sketches due by Jan 15th for the Sketchbook Project.

...and who knows what else?! My mind is always coming up with new ideas.

So if you stopped by here because you picked up my bookmark and you're curious, come back again! I promise there will be something new at least once a week :)

Comic-Con Swag

I normally associate "swag" with more substantial stuff from cons, such as t-shirts, flash drives, posters, etc. But for lack of a better word, here's my swag for the con- 4 bookmark designs. I tried to make designs to reflect my artistic interests.

This one shows my interest in art deco and art nouveau. There are other movements I like, but I only had time for 4 bookmarks :D

Here, my love for mythology, symbolism and cats.

My fascination with zombies is shown here. Oh, I forgot to tell friends the Hub got me Last Night on Earth for my birthday! It's a super fun boardgame, and basically, it puts zombies (1-2 players) against humans (everyone else). Since it's my birthday game, I've claimed zombies in perpetuum. Neener neener.

And I think cephalopods (squid, octopi, and cuttlefish) are some of the coolest animals on earth.

So perhaps, next year, with more time (seriously, I've known about this forever but only decided to do something 4 days ago.), maybe I'll have prints to sell. Assuming there is interest.
